Featured Story: Anaheim or Bust!
This weekend, we’re heading down to WonderCon in Anaheim! That’s right—one of the biggest comic book conventions in the world, and just about the only place where you can meet Spider-Man, Sailor Moon, and at least three different versions of Batman all in the same afternoon.
We’ve been going for around 10 years now, and for the past three years, we’ve had a booth there. This year, Little Brainstorm (aka Justin & Lorran) is teaming up with Diwata Komiks at Booth 66! If you’re at the con, come by, say hi, and maybe grab a sticker (or just bask in our creative chaos—we won’t judge).
What’s New at Little Brainstorm?
We’ve been working on a TON of projects, and one of the biggest is our first novel, Level Zero Heroes—which is officially done! The manuscript is finished, and now it’s onto the next steps (editing, querying, and gently persuading the publishing world that this book is absolutely necessary).
So what’s it about?
Imagine you’re a middle schooler. You’re anxious, creative, kind of overwhelmed—and then your actual ADHD brain pops right out of your skull and starts running around causing chaos. That’s what happened to Bob four years ago. Now he’s stuck with Brain, a noodle-legged, hyperactive, eye-bouncing ball of wild ideas and questionable plans... who also happens to be his literal brain.
Now, Bob and Brain owe his mom a ton of money after accidentally breaking her most treasured heirloom. Their solution? Make the greatest monster truck movie the world has ever seen—on zero budget, in one day, with only a handful of classmates, a camera, and a very questionable stunt plan.
Between avoiding Donnie, their fabulously wealthy class rival who seems determined to ruin everything, and unexpectedly bonding with Wodensday, the coolest girl in school, Bob and Brain are on a chaotic quest to go from level zero nobodies to (maybe?) actual heroes.
It’s funny, heartfelt, packed with action and emotional mayhem—and perfect for readers who love Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Mitchells vs. The Machines, or have ever felt like their brain was two steps ahead and doing parkour.
We’ll be sharing more soon, but if you’re at WonderCon—come see us at Booth 66! There might even be a Brain sighting (no promises, he’s slippery).
Little Brainstorm is Going Full Speed Ahead!
Exciting news! In addition to wrapping up Level Zero Heroes and gearing up for WonderCon (Booth 66, don’t forget!), we’re launching two brand-new projects under Little Brainstorm that you won’t want to miss:
A Daily Comic Strip on Instagram!
That’s right! We’re now publishing a comic strip five days a week over on Instagram (@Little.Brainstorm). Expect humor, twists, chaos, and plenty of ridiculous moments—because why not flood your feed with something fun?
What’s Been Extra Inspirational Lately?
Right now, we’ve been obsessed with Castlevania III from the Castlevania Collection on the Nintendo Switch—and let me tell you, this game is HARD. Like, “throw your controller, reconsider your life choices” hard. But wow, is it one of the best platformers ever released on the NES.
Getting to play as Richter Belmont (whip-wielding vampire hunter extraordinaire), Grant (Mr. Jumps Everywhere Like He’s Auditioning for a Ballet), and Sypha, the magic girl who shoots the coolest energy orbs is such a cool experience. Every level is packed with brutal-but-fair challenges, tight platforming, and that classic Castlevania atmosphere that just oozes gothic horror goodness.
Oh, and did we mention? This is the game that inspired the Castlevania animated series on Netflix. That’s right—this game isn’t just great for what it is; it’s so dang powerful that it sparked an entire modern reimagining.
If you haven’t played it yet and you love classic platformers, Castlevania III is absolutely worth the challenge. Just be ready for some rage-quitting and a newfound appreciation for perfectly timed jumps.
Tech Tip: Walk, Talk, and Write!
Okay, real talk—I’m literally using speech-to-text on my phone right now to write this newsletter while walking. Ain’t that cool? Technology!! We live in the future!!
If you ever find yourself too busy to sit down and write, try this:
Open your phone’s notes app (or Google Docs, Evernote, etc.).
Tap the microphone icon on your keyboard.
Start talking out your ideas while walking, pacing, or even just staring dramatically out the window like you’re in a movie montage.
You’d be surprised how many ideas flow better when you’re moving! Plus, no more blank page paralysis—just brainstorm on the go, then edit later.
It’s how I wrote this, and it might just change how you write too. Give it a shot!
That’s a Wrap!
Thanks for reading this first-ever edition of the Little Brainstorm Newsletter! We’ve got a lot of exciting stuff happening—WonderCon, daily comics, a new YouTube/TikTok series, and a brand-new book on Amazon.
If you want to keep up with everything (and trust me, it’s a lot), make sure to: ✅ Follow us on Instagram (@Little.Brainstorm) for daily comics! ✅ Check out Little Brainstorm Season One on Amazon!
And if you’re at WonderCon this weekend, come say hi at Booth SP 66! We’ll have books, laughs, and maybe even a live Brain sighting (no promises, he’s slippery).
Until next time—keep brainstorming, keep creating, and never stop chasing weird, wonderful ideas!
- Justin & Lorran
